Deleted Scene 2:
I really liked the fairy on a spit as a light source idea but in the end I cut it out to simplify the scene. One of the drawbacks to doing a web comic is that fine details that might look great on a printed page just become pixilated slush on a computer screen. The most important thing for any comic is for it to be readable.

The Secret Origin of Quick, the Clockwork Knight
Some people have asked me where I got the idea for Quick. The story goes that while I was working on my first full-length comic book project (a currently unpublished Film Noir detective story), I was drawing a lot of pictures of regular people in a regular city driving around in regular cars and I hated it. I had written the story (which I liked a lot) before doing a single drawing and I suddenly discovered that I had filled the comic with all kinds of things that I did not like to draw. Realizing my folly, I decided that I would start my next comic book project by first making a list of things I enjoyed drawing and then build the story around that. So my list read something like: monsters, knights, robots, dragons, insects, castles, hair, trees, skeletons, and so on and so forth. I looked at the list and saw “knights” and “robots” and thought, “Why not put them together and have a robot knight… or, better yet, a clockwork knight!” And that’s how it all began.

Going the Extra Mile
You want Quick to win? Me too. First of all you have to vote (see “How to Vote”). Assuming you already did that there’s a couple of other things you can do. Two easy things to do are to click on the “add to favorites” on the right hand side of the comic’s page and to give the comic a 5 star rating (you have to be logged in to do both of these things). While you’re at it, you can post a comment too. All three of these things factor into the comic’s rating. But the most important thing is the vote. You only get one vote but you can always encourage others to vote as well. Post a link on Facebook or MySpace or any other social networking site or blog. Spread the word. Every vote counts.
